Denzel Washington plays Roman J. Israel a defense attorney in Los Angeles, who shows signs of Asperger’s. Roman helps those who are underprivileged. Things change drastically when Roman J. Israel’s boss and mentor, William Henry Jackson, dies unexpectantly from a heart attack. After the death, Roman is then recruited by George Pierce, and his activism is put to the test at the law firm when he has to take on the case of Langston Bailey, who is accused of murdering a convenience store clerk. Along the way, Roman is faced with more challenges than just in the courtroom. Roman meets Maya and they try to navigate things together, however, Roman is the most knowledgeable when it comes to women. There are other twists that Roman has to decide for himself, and it is all put to the test in this movie where others are against him and are trying to knock him down along the way.
