About Student Support and Connections

Global Connections provides opportunities for WSU Global Campus students to connect with other members of our online learning community, build community, and diversify their learning experience.  Global Connections was created in 2012 with the goal of providing extracurricular programs that would help Global Campus students connect to their online community and diversify their learning experience.

Go beyond your expectations.

Beyond a GPA, there is more to becoming a well-rounded and competitive candidate for future opportunities. Global Connections strives to deliver events that allow you to engage with fellow Global Campus students while acquiring information on a variety of topics, or simply enjoy a virtual game night from the comfort of your own home.

This is where you’ll find the best of WSU: career development workshops, faculty presentations, wellbeing seminars, and practical skill building demonstrations as well as fun DIY projects and activities like Virtual 5Ks and bingo.

You can connect—and compete—with students from other WSU campuses in the Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Global Case Competitions.

Global Connections works one-on-one with students to give them the opportunity to virtually present their research and academic work to win prestigious scholarships and awards no matter their physical location.

How does it work? Through cutting-edge web conferencing technology and livestream capabilities, Global Campus students are able to experience live events with the option to chat with guest presenters and other attendees. It’s as easy as selecting a link, marking it on your calendar and joining us from wherever you have an internet connection.

*Global Connections is funded by Services and Activities (S&A) fees.

Our Programs

Wellbeing Online provides wellness programming and services for emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, mental, occupational, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.

This program’s Prevention, Promotion, and Education activities are dedicated to whole-person wellness for Global Campus students. Programming may include events and activities that touch on any of the eight dimensions of wellness. Our mental and emotional wellness programs, such as Project Mindfulness, are evidence-based and theory-informed to help ensure the best experience and outcomes. Wellbeing Online also provides a space for students in recovery or considering recovery and advocates for addiction recovery.

Our Global Campus Esports program, offers a varsity-level competitive gaming team, a sport that our students from around the world can rally behind, building camaraderie and school spirit, both as players and spectators.

Founded in 2022, the WSU Global Campus Esports Team is the official team for Washington State University’s fully online campus. We represent Global Campus at national-level collegiate esports competitions. We are affiliated with the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF) and are currently participating only in competitions in the video game title “Rocket League.”

The team is currently composed of three members who receive a scholarship for their participation in the team. The team is coached by James “Hops” Hoplin, WSU Global Campus’ esports coordinator.

Global Campus Esports was created as a way to build community and camaraderie among Global Campus Cougs by taking advantage of an innovative and exciting sporting opportunity that can be easily enjoyed virtually by students around the world: competitive esports.

Our team was founded with three principles in mind: Connection. Competition. Inclusion.

  • Connection—We’re students. We’re online. We’re Cougs. Spread throughout the nation and the world, esports are a great way to bridge the distance, connecting students and staff alike.
  • Competition—Being an online student shouldn’t limit your ability to participate in competitive sports. With Global Campus Esports, students can participate in varsity level competitions and represent the Cougar nation.
  • Inclusion—Everyone is welcome in the WSU family. Gaming can break down barriers and allow students to get to know people they would not otherwise have met.

If you would like to get involved with the team or learn more about esports at WSU, contact James Hoplin at jhoplin@wsu.edu. You can also get updates on Global Campus esports competitions and activities by following WSU Global Campus on Facebook and Twitter.
