One Billion Rising Zumba Dance Class

February 14, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Text: 1 Billion Rising Image: Decorative Join the global movement to stop violence against women. One Billion Rising is a dance event celebrated around the world that raises awareness to end violence against women and girls.  You are invited to join WSU University Recreation’s One Billion Rising Dance via livestream at 6 p.m. on February 14 as we rise, release, and dance, in a one-hour long free Zumba class.

One Billion Rising began on Valentine’s Day 2012 as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls. Now, every February, women rise in hundreds of countries across the world to show local communities and the world what one billion looks like and to shine a light on the rampant injustice that survivors most often face. Women rise through dance to express joy in the community and to celebrate the fact that they have not been defeated by the violence.

Please note that this event will only be livestreamed and will not be available for later viewing.
