Student Leadership Opportunities

WSU Global Campus offers multiple ways to get involved as a student leader through paid positions and non-paid opportunities to shape programs, advocate for peers, and strengthen the online Cougar experience. Opportunities include serving as a student ambassador or club leader or taking on a leadership role through ASWSU Global.

Student Ambassadors

Student ambassadors are currently enrolled S & A fee-paying WSU Global Campus students who provide feedback and support in developing Global Connections’ web-based programs. They play vital roles in helping to shape offerings for online Cougs and build community across distances.

  • get paid to share your ideas and engage with other Global Campus students
  • have a flexible schedule (up to 19 hours per week; school comes first)
  • work remotely, anywhere you have internet access
  • gain valuable leadership, communication, and teamwork experience
  • earn internship credit (must check with your advisor)
  • connect with WSU staff and students
  • add professional experience to your resume

Please read the full student ambassador’s roles and responsibilities (PDF).

  • create and attend web-based programs
  • research and suggest new event ideas
  • contribute to social media campaigns (graphics, promotion, etc.)
  • provide feedback on programming
  • help fellow students connect and feel part of the online Cougar community

Requirements:

  • current WSU Global Campus student in good standing
  • must be S & A fee-paying
  • enrolled in at least 6 credits
  • minimum GPA of 2.5

Club Leaders

Non-ambassador club leaders are non-paid global campus students who plan and run student-led clubs and activities. They enrich the student experience by building communities, fostering engagement, and mentoring fellow Cougs.

  • execute tasks remotely and on your own schedule
  • build leadership, planning, and communication skills
  • earn internship credit (must check with your advisor)
  • connect with fellow club leaders and staff
  • add experience to your resume

  • plan and facilitate student clubs and groups
  • help create opportunities for students to connect
  • provide input on club programming
  • encourage engagement and participation

Interested in leading a club? Here’s how it works:

Unlike registered student organizations (RSOs), most Global Campus clubs don’t require constitutions, bylaws, or elections. Students can become club leaders if they:

  • start a brand-new club
  • restart an inactive club
  • step into a leadership role when a previous leader moves on

Current student ambassadors and student government (ASWSUG) board members may also take on leadership roles in active clubs after being hired.

To Start a New Club

  1. Log in to Involve.
  2. Use the “Create Organization” tool in the student portal.
  3. Fill out the required information (organization name, logo, leadership contact information, etc.).
  4. Your submission will be reviewed by Global Connections staff.
  5. Once reviewed, you’ll be invited to a short Zoom meeting to go over details and next steps.

ASWSU Global

Founded in 1998, ASWSU Global (ASWSUG) was the first student government in the country created for distance learners. Today, it provides leadership, resources, and advocacy for Global Campus students through its Executive Board and specialized committees.

Why become a board member?

  • make a direct impact on the online student experience
  • build leadership, communication, and advocacy skills
  • earn a monthly stipend while serving your peers

What you’ll do:

  • serve as one of seven paid student leaders, each with a unique area of focus
  • represent and advocate for Global Campus students
  • plan events, initiatives, and resources to support online learners
  • attend weekly remote meetings, with occasional covered travel to Washington

Beyond the Executive Board, ASWSUG also offers opportunities to get involved in leadership and service through committees such as the Resource Allocation and Accountability (RAA) Board, which allocates student fees and upholds accountability within student government, and the Commencement Committee, which helps plan the Global Campus commencement reception.
