SUMMARY:Common Reading Series: The Intersection of Disability\, Immigration\, and Refugee Policy
DESCRIPTION:It is estimated that there are 244 million international migrants living all over the world\, and roughly 47 million of those live within the United States. The challenges that refugees and migrants face during forced displacement and through the legal process is long and arduous; it is even more tedious for refugees who identify as having a disability. Refugees and migrants with disabilities often face environmental\, physical\, and societal barriers that made gaining residency near impossible. Even though there is a lack of data regarding the number of international migrants and refugees with disabilities\, evidence suggests that current refugee and immigration policies make it more difficult for people with disabilities to enter the United States. \nIn this presentation\, Davi Kallman and Kameryn Jadoo from WSU’s Access Center will discuss how current refugee and immigration policy impact people with disabilities\, how refugees with disabilities are currently treated\, and how future refugee policy can better include people with disabilities.  \nRecording not available.
