SUMMARY:“But I Liked Your Post?!”: Shallow Political Engagement in the Era of Transitory Communication and a Dialogue about Democratic Engagement
DESCRIPTION:Political engagement in the United States seems to be nose diving in terms of voting\, but protest over politics seems to be on the increase\, particularly in digital space. Building on his research and teaching\, Dr. Richard Pineda\, director of the Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso\, offers insight into what has created the intersection of shallow political engagement with visceral public reaction and a growing gap in citizens’ understanding of civic responsibility and social capital. \nRegister for the livestream on the GPSA CougSync Page

SUMMARY:The Cheeky Scientist Series: Interviewing and Negotiating
DESCRIPTION:This topic discusses the strategy of interviewing beyond just answering questions. There is an entire process of preparation for an interview\, beside learning how to answer interview questions. We will detail the entire interview preparation that is required for professionals to demonstrate they are invaluable to a company; from the research to the categories of interview questions\, and the best ways to respond. \nMost jobseekers don’t negotiate even though companies expect them to negotiate. We will cover how companies start negotiations long before the candidate realizes\, to condition the candidate for a lower salary. We will demonstrate how to spot these negotiation techniques and then the order in which a candidate should negotiate so that a candidate can put themselves in a position of strength to negotiate on average 10-15% higher salary. \nRegister for the livestream on the PDI CougSync Page
